The STAEDTLER 5427 does not rub, it lifts. Press the kneaded block onto charcoal, graphite or pastel and the pigment comes away with it, which is how a highlight is pulled out of a drawing without scrubbing the tooth off the paper. It is smudge-free, and because it is shaped by hand the erasing edge can be made as broad or as fine as the correction needs.
