The Mars® 502 is a lead pointer, not a pencil sharpener — it puts a cone on the 2 mm lead already sitting in a clutch pencil, which no ordinary sharpener will do. Two details make it worth having: an automatic sharpening stop, so you cannot overrun and waste lead, and a measurement device for setting how long a cone you want. An integrated dust wiper cleans the lead as it leaves, so graphite dust does not end up on the drawing.
